Why I Love Photographing Weddings at The Waterside
The Waterside is one of those venues where I’m always looking forward to getting the couple outside. You’ve got the gardens, the coastline and, of course, the beach right on the doorstep. Every wedding is different, so I don’t arrive with a list of photographs that have to be recreated. I watch the light, see what the Ayrshire weather gives us and make the most of it. And when that west-coast sky decides to put on a show, it can be absolutely spectacular.
Wedding Photography on the Beach at The Waterside
Having the beach just a short walk away gives us the chance to create something completely different without disappearing from your wedding for ages. We can keep things romantic and relaxed, make the most of the sea and sky, or — if you’re up for a bit of fun — create something with a little more drama. The important thing for me is that the photographs still feel like you.
What If It Rains on Your Waterside Wedding Day?
This is Ayrshire, so I’m never going to promise you sunshine! But rain certainly doesn’t mean your wedding photographs are ruined. I’ll always have a Plan B — and usually a Plan C as well. We can use the hotel, covered areas and whatever breaks in the weather we get, and sometimes the most dramatic photographs come from the days when the weather refuses to behave. My job is to worry about the photographs so you can get on with enjoying your wedding day.
My Approach as a Waterside Wedding Photographer
I want you to enjoy your wedding day, not spend half of it posing for photographs. For most of the day I’ll simply watch for the laughs, reactions and little moments happening naturally around me. When we head out for your couple photographs, I’ll give you enough direction so you never feel awkward, but I still want the photographs to look and feel like you. And if the light, location or weather gives us the chance to create something a little bit spectacular, you can probably guess I’m going to take it!
The Best Time for Waterside Wedding Photographs
One of my favourite times to photograph a Waterside wedding is later in the day, when the light begins to soften and the sun starts dropping towards Arran. If the sky looks promising, I’ll keep an eye on it and let you know when it’s worth nipping outside. You don’t need to disappear from your guests for ages — sometimes ten minutes is all we need. And if we’re lucky enough to get one of those spectacular west-coast sunsets, it can give you some of the photographs you’ll remember most from the whole day.
