Western House Hotel in Ayr is one of those wedding venues that gives a photographer a little bit of everything. Set beside Ayr Racecourse, it has beautiful grounds, elegant interiors and plenty of opportunities for relaxed, natural wedding photographs throughout the day. As a Western House Hotel wedding photographer, I love being able to capture the big moments, the little moments and everything that happens in between.
Why I Love Photographing Weddings at Western House Hotel
Western House has a lovely mix of character and space, which means I’m never short of ideas for photographs. I can take a couple away for ten minutes for something special, then have them straight back with their family and friends enjoying their wedding. That’s important to me — your wedding day shouldn’t turn into one long photoshoot. The best photographs often happen when everyone forgets I’m there.
The Best Places for Wedding Photographs at Western House Hotel
The gardens at Western House Hotel are absolutely stunning and give us plenty of choice for photographs throughout the day. One of my favourite spots is the beautiful avenue of trees, which is perfect for relaxed walking shots of the newlyweds together. The front of Western House is another fantastic location, particularly the striking fountain with its three bronze racehorses — a lovely nod to the hotel’s setting beside Ayr Racecourse and something that makes photographs taken here instantly recognisable.
Making the Most of the Grounds at Western House Hotel
With so many of my favourite photography locations at Western House being outdoors, I always keep an eye on the Ayrshire weather and make the most of the opportunities it gives us. If we get a break in the rain, I know exactly where I want to take you, so we can head outside, create some beautiful photographs in the gardens and around the hotel, and have you back with your guests without disappearing for ages.

My approach to a wedding at Western House is simple — I want you to enjoy your wedding, not spend half of it posing for photographs. Of course we’ll create the photographs you’ll want on the wall, but I’ll also be watching for everything happening around you: the laughs, the reactions, the wee looks between people and all those moments you didn’t even realise were happening. There really isn’t a bad time for photographs in the gardens at Western House Hotel. They look beautiful throughout the day, so whenever we get the opportunity, there’s somewhere lovely to work. But when evening arrives, we can create something completely different. Using carefully placed gelled lighting around the fountain and its three bronze racehorses, it becomes an outstanding backdrop for a dramatic night-time portrait — the perfect excuse to sneak away from the party for ten minutes and create something special.
