My Favourite Wedding Venues in Ayrshire – An Ayrshire Wedding Photographer’s View
As an Ayrshire wedding photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of photographing weddings at some fantastic venues across the area. Every venue has its own character, but from a photographer’s point of view, some offer something particularly special. Here are some of my favourite Ayrshire Wedding Venues, along with what I think makes each one such a great place to get married.
The Gailes Hotel & Spa, Irvine
The Gailes is one of my favourite Ayrshire wedding venues to photograph. The grounds give us plenty of opportunities for beautiful portraits, while the relaxed atmosphere makes it a brilliant place for natural, candid wedding photography. Having photographed weddings here, I know the venue well and where to head when the light is just right — or when the Ayrshire weather decides not to cooperate!

The Waterside Hotel & Spa, West Kilbride
The Waterside is another Ayrshire wedding venue I always enjoy photographing. Its position right on the coast gives us fantastic opportunities for photographs, with the beach, sea and views towards Arran providing a beautiful backdrop. Inside and out there are plenty of options whatever the weather, and when we get one of those spectacular Ayrshire sunsets, The Waterside really comes into its own.

Brig o’ Doon House Hotel, Alloway
Nestled along the River Doon and made famous by Robert Burns’ poem “Tam o’ Shanter,” this stunning 18th-century mansion offers an elegant blend of historic charm and modern luxury. The manicured gardens, award-winning cuisine, and the iconic Brig o’ Doon bridge provide a romantic backdrop for ceremonies and photographs, while the grand ballroom can accommodate up to 200 guests.
Dumfries House, Cumnock
Saved by Prince Charles and meticulously restored, this stunning 18th-century Palladian mansion offers a blend of historic grandeur and royal connection. The estate features beautiful gardens, unique ceremony spaces including the Tapestry Room, and can host intimate gatherings or large celebrations for up to 180 guests in the Great Steward’s Dining Room.
Lochgreen House Hotel, Troon
This luxurious country house hotel set in thirty acres of woodland and gardens offers elegant wedding spaces with a sophisticated atmosphere. The venue is renowned for its exceptional cuisine and attentive service, accommodating up to 200 guests in its beautifully appointed function rooms and marquee options.
Western House Hotel, Ayr
Located within the grounds of Ayr Racecourse, this four-star hotel combines Victorian elegance with contemporary comfort. Western House Hotel has beautiful gardens with plenty of opportunities for wedding photographs throughout the day. I particularly love the avenue of trees for relaxed walking photographs, while the fountain at the front of the hotel, with its three bronze racehorses, gives us something completely different — especially in the evening when I can bring in some creative lighting. The manicured gardens offer excellent photography opportunities.
Piersland House, Troon
Originally built as the private residence of the Johnnie Walker whisky family, this elegant Tudor-style mansion offers a combination of historic charm and modern comfort. The beautiful gardens and conservatory provide lovely ceremony options, while the function rooms can accommodate up to 160 guests.
